Welcome

Welcome to iPhone Design, the site’s aim is to provide hints, tips and resources for designing and compiling themes and graphics for the iPhone series. I am no stranger to skinning and theming for Nokia S60 and Sony Ericsson phones, and have only just started theming for the iphone which does require your handset to be jailbroken and have Winterboard installed. Most of the guides you’ll find on the site have been put together with Winterboard in mind. (This site does not include info on HOW TO jailbreak your iPhone)

Change iPhone font with bytafont!

With a jailbroken iPhone it’s possible to change many elements of the theme structure, to change system fonts you will need an application from Cydia like ‘Bytafont’. This program will enable you to replace system fonts to suit your theme or your whim!

Install ‘Bytafont’ from Cydia….

Re-open Cydia and navigate to the Fonts section: Cydia>Sections>Fonts……

Browse various font files to install……

All iPhoneruler.net files are compatible with Bytafont, I have modded mine to use the ‘Yikes’ font!

Transfer with WINSCP

In order to get your themes into Winterboard from your PC you will need something like WinSCP to transfer files into your themes folder. A little guide is provided below on how to do this!
Open WinSCP and find your iPhone using it’s wifi IP address… (This can be found by going to >Settings>WiFi and click on the arrow beside the connected network)

Click NEW and add the details to setup your connection!

Login to your phone using the default username of ‘root’ and password of ‘alpine’, unless you’ve changed it?

Once into your file structure navigate to the following folder: /private/var/stash/Themes.tWqafi (or similar)

Once into this folder you can drag and drop your created theme folders in here, you can then use winterboard to select your themes..……

Installing Themes With Winterboard

I do not know of any other way of installing themes on an iPhone without Winterboard, and of course the phone needs to be jail-broken! Below is a basic guide on the principles of installing themes with this very useful software, it can be installed from Cydia from a Jailbroken iPhone.
Look for an icon similar to this on your Springboard……

Once opened you should be presented with this screen?…………..

Round Stone icons.

Black Shelves iPhone wallpapers.

I have been busy today putting together an iPhone wallpaper consisting of a black wooden shelf effect, 2 versions with and without dock! I have linked to the PSD file which gives you the chance to play around with the layers and design your own.

Download the PSD file to manipulate your self.

Auto Theme iPhone icons!

I have created an ‘AppIconMask’ & ‘AppIconShadow’ using Photoshop CS3, if you would like to use this set please place the two .png files in your folder using winscp and Winterboard as described below………………..

The AppIconMask & AppIconShadow need to be in every theme folder you create and placed in /private/var/stash/Themes/*.*/Bundles/com.apple.mobileicons.framework, where you see *.* please replace with the name you gave your theme folder!
